Late Summer

Home Maintenance
  1. Clear gutters and downspouts after summer storms to prevent backups and hidden water damage. Visually check the roof line for lifted shingles or flashing.
  2. Check grading and drainage: standing water now turns into bigger problems later.
  3. Inspect decks, patios and railings for loose boards or soft spots from heat and humidity. Stain or paint to extend the life of the wood.
  4. Landscape clean-up: trim overgrowth, remove dead plants, edge beds, refresh mulch.
  5. Inspect exterior caulking and seals around windows, doors, and hose bibs.
  6. Change refrigerator water filters and any under-sink or whole-home drinking filters.
  7. Clean cooking air filters (range hood or microwave filters) to remove grease buildup and improve air quality.
  8. If you use your fireplace regularly: inspect the fireplace, chimney, and flue to catch buildup or ventilation issues early.
  9. Declutter with purpose: donate unused home goods to refresh your space and reduce clutter.
  10. Have major systems professionally inspected: HVAC, Water Heater, Solar Panels, Radon systems should all be checked to ensure efficiency and longevity.
